About the event
Do you or someone you know or love have a developmental or intellectual disability? (Autism, Down Syndrome, etc.) Are you a self advocate or consider yourself an ally(family, friend, peer, etc.)? We are excited to invite you to our upcoming series of events, Speak Up Saturdays! We will be kicking the tour off with two new events, made by self advocates for self advocates, You Are NOT Alone! All About Trauma and All About Wellness. The all day event is free to attend. To make your experience even more enjoyable, we will be providing free lunch and refreshments at each event. This will give you a chance to network with fellow self advocates and/or allies, share experiences, and build a supportive community The events will be held in a fully accessible location on July 29th at Mount Ararat Baptist Church, 271 Paulson Ave., Pittsburgh PA 15206 To register: Online at sau1.me/speakupsaturdays or through Carla at 814 201 6061 or Y2FybGEgfCBzYXUxICEgb3Jn. Please register by July 14th. Let Carla know by July 14th if you need accommodations (sign language, braille, CART, etc.) Locations are all physically accessible. Scholarships for travel may be available though the PA DDC. Apply at sau1.me/LEAFPADDC Primary audience are people with disabilities with their supporters or allies. All sessions have information specific to people with intellectual disabilities and/or autism and the supports available through the PA Office of Developmental Programs. People who are not attending with a person with disabilities may be put on a wait list. You Are NOT Alone! All About Trauma: What is trauma? What causes trauma? What does trauma look like? How do we know if we have trauma? What can we do about it? Let's learn all about trauma together. Let's make our own plans on what we can do about trauma. All About Wellness: What does wellness look like for you? How can you make a plan for your own wellness? What supports are out there to help with our wellness? Let's learn from each other and move forward with our own wellness plan.
